How to Extend the Life of Your Elderly Loved Ones That Physicians Rarely Tell You

How many cars have you owned during your life that were built with strong steel engines? The average life of a car may be 20-30 years until the engine fails. Every person has a heart that is the engine to the body simply made of muscles and soft tissue, yet people often outlive our cars. All things eventually wear out and fail whether it is a steel engine or our hearts. One simple way to determine if our heart is getting weaker is when our lower legs start to swell. This signals that our heart is not strong enough to pump the blood that flows to our feet with the help of gravity back up to the chest area of our body for proper blood circulation. If left unchecked, this can cause a heart attack, stroke or death. Physicians normally prescribe water pills to help with this problem of fluid retention in the legs but they rarely inform the patients of one simple step to help ease the stress on the heart to extend the life of our loved ones. If your elderly loved one has feet and legs...

Obesity A Threat To National Wellbeing

The warning by Professor Dame Sally Davies, Britain's Chief Medical Officer (CMO), that overweight and obesity in women has now become so widespread that it should be treated as a "national risk" alongside threats such as terrorism and climate change, has focussed attention on a problem that has grown alarmingly over the past few decades. Apart from its other implications, both for the nation and for the individuals concerned, attention has again been drawn to the fact that a large part of the cost of the UK's National Health Service (NHS) is incurred in treating conditions that are preventable and self-inflicted. According to the CMO, obesity in younger women during pregnancy increases the risk of miscarriage and premature birth, and can result in children carrying a higher risk of heart disease and of becoming obese in their turn. Official figures show that 51 per cent of women of optimum child bearing age (25 to 34) are overweight or obese,...

What You Must Know About Genetically Modified Animals

Well there has been a debate on whether genetically modified foods are safe for human consumption or not. There are some people who totally have no problem with GMOs while others who are against this types of food. For the first time, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved a genetically modified animal for human consumption: the Salmon. You will expect different reactions from the public with such news. Some going to the streets to demonstrate. The truth of the matter is that almost every food we put on the table is modified in the lab. AquAdvantage, the company that modified the salmon, combined the DNA of a Chinook salmon and an eel-like species. The fish will grow all year and at a faster rate than the natural salmon. The FDA also says that it is healthy and has no nutritional difference with other farm raised salmon. The big question is, are genetic engineered animals good for health and safe for human consumption? Let's discuss that.

Avoid Long-Term Issues By Treating Your Car Accident Knee Injuries

Concussions, neck injury and back injury are the most common damages we associate with a person in a car accident. However, if you overlook for too long, injuries that looked insignificant and less painful at first may turn out to cause a permanent disability. One of these 'minor' areas is the knee, which ironically, is also one of the most complex joints in a human body. Therefore, if your knee hurts after a car accident, do not delay visiting a doctor for knee injury and getting a thorough checkup. Common Knee Injuries from a Car Accident A knee has an intricate combination of several cartilages, bones, ligaments and muscles. As a result, even a low impact collision can disrupt this complex system, and pose a serious threat to health and activity. Here are some common types of knee injuries that can happen from a car accident: Knee Strains Knee strains are the most common knee injury that happen when a leg twists unexpectedly. This sudden movement makes the muscles...

Five Things To Consider When Choosing Health Clubs

Although most people buy them with the best of intentions, gym memberships often go underutilized, even unused. According to industry data, only 18 percent of members visit their health clubs on a regular basis. Why would anyone pay for something they rarely or never use? One possible explanation is that they don't like the club they signed up for, but they can't quit because they're locked in a long-term contract. With that in mind, here are five things you should consider before selecting a gym. The Staff Ever wonder how some health clubs get away with charging cheap monthly fees? More often than not, they do this by cutting their staff to the bone. By keeping what is essentially a skeleton crew, these gyms can lower their membership fees to attract cost-conscious consumers. Of course, these cutbacks invariably come at a cost. With fewer employees to run the facility, users should not expect much personal attention. And while this might be just fine for the average...

Teen Drug Abuse and Ways to Deal With It

Individuals who take to abusing drugs in their early age are at a greater risk of getting addicted compared to those who begin it as an adult owing to the immaturity of the teenage brain. If you visit any detox center in the country, be it in a remote borough or detox retreats, you will be surprised to find a good number of the inmates are young adults or teens. Now, sample a few startling stats : Out of every third teenager in the U.S. with medical marijuana laws gets the pot from other people's prescriptions. The U.S. represents 5% of the world's population and among those taking prescription drugs they represent 75% of them. 60% of teens who abuse prescription drugs get it free from friends and relatives. It has so much to do with the fact that 60% of seniors don't even see regular marijuana use as harmful. As per surveys, more than 50% of high school students admit that there are places near or within the campus to which they make a beeline to drink, smoke,...

How To Do an Ombre Hair Color

An Ombre hair coloring style is where you get a fade from dark to light or from light to dark as you go out from the mid-lengths to the ends. The Ombre look is really popular in the salons these days. Here is a simple fail-safe way of achieving the classic ombre hair look: For the Base. You need to caramelize the base. For this, use a natural color fairly close to your customer's hair coloring level, but with some added reflects and make sure that it is 1-2 levels lighter. Mix with developer and apply on the mid-lengths only using your dye brush, but do not color the ends. For example, if your customer has a natural level 5, you can choose any color at the 6 level. For the Ends. Now you can deal with the ends. If you are looking for the classic ombre hair color result, use a highlift color (100 series). These are available at most professional hair color brands and they offer up to 5 levels lift. So these give really good ombre results.

Eliminating Unwanted Perfume

Our first thought is to use soap and water and wash the area where the perfume was applied. Short of rubbing the area raw, this won't make much of a difference as fragrances are prepared with ingredients that are soluble in alcohol rather than water. I personally do not recommend rubbing your skin with pure alcohol as this is a harsh solution and would turn sensitive skin into a mass of red spots. Therefore, I will share with you my favorite approaches to get rid of the unpleasant perfumes in a safe, gentle and effective way. Not only do these remove unwanted perfume but can also be used as beauty treatments. Makeup Remover  - look for makeup removers that are designed for waterproof cosmetics. Using several cotton balls, saturate with the makeup remover and apply over the perfumed area. Allow the solution to remain on the skin for about 3 minutes. Should any trace of the fragrance still remain, use a fresh cotton ball with makeup remover and repeat the process. Rinse the ar...
